A definition I found from Oxford languages defines resilience as: the capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
I have had many conversations with people about their wants, goals, and even their biggest dreams spanning many topics: relationships, health and fitness, career, self employment and travel. People know that there is action to take. Individuals will confide and consult with people they trust, a coach or mentor to gain a clear vision. With a plan forged, and spirits high people will set out to achieve their goals.
I can speak for myself, as I have set out many times towards goals with great intentions and seemingly well thought out plans. I have achieved successes in my various journeys but inevitably life happened and derailed my well thought out plans. My self confidence had been shaken, I had not planned for the low points in my journey and more often than not I didn’t end up achieving the big goal or dream.
In the past I would struggle and try to re-focus on the big picture goal and eventually make excuses for why it wasn’t working. I learned that you need a plan, a plan not only to get you to your goal but a plan for how to deal with the sucky stuff that life throws at you; a plan to be resilient. How are you going to weather the storms in your life and still keep your eye on the prize?
I see a lot of content about building success, how to get clients to their goal and that’s great but I think that there is a big piece missing and that is a resilience plan, a plan B or even C, because we know that life can throw us curve balls.
A big part of building confidence and trust back in ourselves is knowing that we have made considerations for both the highs and lows of our journey. By acknowledging that there will be lows in the journey and preparing ourselves, we build a sense of confidence in ourselves; we will know what to do if…..
This kind of well rounded success planning can you feel less stress, roll with life’s ups and down and get back on track faster with confidence- the definition of resilience.
